Around the world, experts in Tai Chi chuan and kung fu know the name Doc-Fai Wong. Selected by Inside Kung Fu magazine as one of the top 100 martial arts personalities in the world, Wong has also been featured as the kung fu artist of the year by Black Belt magazine and has been featured on the covers of more than a dozen martial arts publications.
Doc-Fai Wong is a living link to the lineage of Tai Chi grandmasters going back to Yang Lu-Chan, who in the mid-1800s modified the form of Tai Chi known today as the Yang style. Wong's instructor was Hu Yuen-Chou, a revered Chinese Tai Chi grandmaster who died in 1997 at age 94. Professor Hu had been a disciple of Yang Cheng-Fu, considered the greatest teacher of Yang style Tai Chi and the first person to teach the art publicly in China.
Wong has been teaching Yang style Tai Chi and choy-li-fut style kung fu since 1968 at his headquarters school in San Francisco, California. He is the founder of the Plum Blossom Federation of these two martial arts styles. More than 70 Tai Chi and choy-li-fut schools throughout the world are members of the federation, making it one of the largest kung fu organizations in the world.

In 1987, Wong was promoted to grandmaster of the Choy-Li-Fut/Tai Chi Chuan International Federation by his instructor Hu Yuen-Chou, who retired from the position.
It was also in 1987 that Wong was named coach for the United States Tai Chi team competing in the Tai Chi push hands world competition in Taiwan--an international event held every four years. Wong's team became the first and only U.S. team ever to place in the championship, coming in second to Taiwan in the team standings and winning the top three individual places.
The author or co-author of more than 200 martial arts articles and several books, including Tai Chi Chuan's Internal Secrets, Choy-Li-Fut Kung Fu, and Shaolin Five Animal Kung Fu, Wong was also for many years a monthly columnist for Inside Kung Fu magazine.
In addition, Wong is a California state-certified herbalist and doctor of acupuncture. He is also an expert in chi kung, having been a longtime disciple of professors Peng-Si Yu and Min Ou-Yang, two of China's most well-regarded chi kung teachers.
